Commercial Pilot Certificate

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Read, speak, write, and understand English
  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate
  • Hold a current FAA medical certificate
  • Pass an FAA commercial pilot airman knowledge test with a grade of 70% or better
  • Pass an FAA oral and flight exam

Aeronautical Experience:

  • 250 hours of total flight time
  • 100 hours of pilot in command time, which includes:
    • 50 hours in cross-country flight
  • 20 hours of dual flight training on the commercial pilot areas, which include:
    • 10 hours instrument
    • 10 hours training in complex or turbine powered powered airplane
    • 1 day VFR 2 hour cross country of straight line distantance of more than 100nm
    • 1 night VFR 2 hour cross country of straight line distantance of more than 100nm
    • 3 hours of flight training within the preceding 60 days in preparation for the pratical test
  • 10 hours solo on the commercial pilot areas which include:
    • one cross country of not less than 300nm with landings with a min of 3 points, one of which is more than 250nm
    • 5 hours night VFR with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings at a controlled airport

Ways to Cut Costs:

  • Getting the most out of your flight time: Be prepared for each lesson by memorizing any procedures your flight instructor gives you. Believe it or not, much of learning to fly can be accomplished on the ground. Memorizing the procedures and maneuvers your instructor gives you will minimize your flight time, ease frustration, and give you a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
